Ireland submits 70 projects for €315 billion EU investment plan – The Irish Times

Ireland has submitted more than 70 projects for possible inclusion in the EU’s €315 billion investment plan, with energy, social housing and infrastructural projects forming the bulk of the list.

Among the projects identified by the Government are a proposed new runway at Dublin Airport, the Dart Underground, the Shannon Airport development plan, Grid West, and a number of wind farms being developed by Bord na Móna, Coillte and the ESB.

Ireland’s bee population ‘could shrink’ if pylons go up – Irish Daily Mirror, 28 November 2014

Ireland’s bee population could nosedive if plans to plant giant electricity pylons go ahead, it has been warned.

Eirgrid plans to build the 60m high structures through a picturesque valley in Cahir, South Tipperary, where the insects meet to mate.

But beekeepers have claimed the electromagnetic fields from the pylons could stop males from finding the queen bees in the area.

Aoife Mac Giolla Coda expressed concerns the project could weaken the colonies and reduce the number of Irish Black honeybees.
